What comes in a cross stitch stocking kit?

A cross stitch Christmas stocking kit contains the aida fabric, stranded cottons, a needle, the chart and instructions, and most kits also include the felt or cotton backing, so the finished stocking can be sewn up straight from the box. Most Design Works and Dimensions designs add a full alphabet chart for personalising with a name.

Most stockings are worked on 14 count aida; the Dimensions Gold Collection uses finer 16 and 18 count for its most detailed scenes, and Permin of Copenhagen stitches its Scandinavian designs in yarn on 10 count jute. A stocking is a real project - an autumn of evenings rather than a weekend - which is why August and September starters hang theirs in December.

Prefer felt applique, or after a matching set? The main stocking page carries the felt kits alongside these, and tree skirt kits finish the look under the tree.
