For presents and post, Christmas card kits are the fastest stitch - the card and envelope come in the box. To decorate the house, there are decoration kits in cross stitch, felt and plastic canvas, many making six or more tree decorations from a single kit, and tree skirt kits to go underneath. For the table there are runners and tablecloths to embroider, and for the mantelpiece, stocking kits in counted cross stitch and felt appliqué.
One piece of honest advice on timing: cards are an evening each, but an advent calendar has to be finished by the first of December, and a stocking or tablecloth is an autumn's worth of evenings. Stitchers who start in August are relaxed in November - the range is at its fullest now, and the kits do not mind waiting in a drawer.
